PAT testing (Portable Appliance Testing) is a major part of Health & Safety for companies. It’s to ensure that people aren’t injured or harmed by any electrical equipment within a business. A test should be carried out at least once a year. It is the responsibility of the Managing Director to ensure a regular PAT test is carried out; failure to do so can result in prosecution or a fine.

During a PAT test, equipment will undergo a visual inspection, this is where appliances are checked for damage to casing, wiring and general wear. After equipment and appliances have passed their visual inspection, electrical testing is done using a calibrated portable appliance tester to check that they are within the current regulations. The equipment is then labelled to prove it is safe to use. Once the testing is completed you will receive a registered certificate with details of the PAT test which must always be kept for future reference.

PAT testing should always be done within IEE code of practice and follow the guidelines of the HSE. Here at 4maintanence we can guarantee that all of our electricians are fully qualified to test your electrical equipment. This ensures the safety of your staff.
